Over the past few weeks we have been building this wall of barriers- barriers between us and God, as well as barriers in our relationships. Now you may look at some of these boxes and say; “Neil, in all honesty… I don’t have a problem with racism, or, I am not judgmental.” But… we all share the core root of all of these –Sin.”

We have been building a big wall here at the front of the Church – the question is… how are we going to knock this stuff down in our lives? Each of these barriers represent something that is a blockage that can get in the way of our relationships with each other… and with God. So how do we break these things? You’ve probably come across some messages that tell you – just think positive! Believe in yourself! You can do it! But you know what, if you’re tried that, you will know, that will-power, does not seem to work! And if it does … it’s only for a short time. So no… we need something more than will-power to break down these barriers in our lives – we need the power of God.

Now, I know it is Mother’s Day & you are probably thinking – Tracey, what are you thinking?? But our barriers we are going to look at today are Judging and Shaming. Happy Mother’s Day!! But seriously, this is a huge issue and an issue that affects us all, but I think is especially an issue that us ladies are especially guilty of. If we can confront this barrier on it will be a huge Mother’s Day gift to ourselves, our families and to our church.

If we look for unity in this world today, we it is hard to find. Even the Church has sometimes failed in painting a picture of unity.
We sometimes cant even agree within ourselves on certain things. When the world looks in at this sometimes dysfunctional family of ours, its no wonder they want.To turn away and look to other things. What are we doing? Are we not called to offer something different.

It may be surprising to discover that Breaking the Barrier of Despair is not what we expected because when we are in deep relationship with God, when we love Him with all out heart, mind and strength, despair begins to look very different.

Losing my religion… I always wondered how that could happen to someone… But then I began to learn, that if your religion is just a bunch of rules… and religious trappings… and it’s not a heart thing… a core thing… if it’s not a relationship with God… then it actually is quite easy to lose it… because it was never something that truly gripped you from the inside out. When we take a look at the life of Jesus… He was certainly critical of the organised religion of the day… and He had some really serious things to say about it. Now this
is a really important barrier for us to tackle… because it’s actually a barrier that Jesus often faced in his ministry.

Sadly… in the world today… there are also many barriers that divide… barriers that divide different races… different genders… different traditions… different status’s… different income brackets… different cultures… different languages… different, different, different! The  question is… did God design us to live this way?… With all these camps… of us… and them? I think Paul gives us the answer in the book of Galatians when he says…
• “There is neither Jew… nor Gentile… neither slave… nor free… nor is there male and female… for you are all one… in Christ Jesus. (Galatians 3:28)
And so this is a great reminder to us… not to allow barriers to divide us!
