There was a song that came out not so long ago… called the hall of fame… by the band ‘The Script’… a real feel good song about getting out there and becoming who you want to be in life… and ending up “Standing in the hall of fame… ooooohhh… and the worlds gonna know your name…” Catchy song. But at its core… it’s really all about you becoming famous! The world knowing my name… in the worldly hall of fame. But what I love about the passage we are going to be going through today, is that these individuals… who we are going to read about… seem more interested in God’s fame…than theirs!

This morning’s passage in Hebrews has a mysterious character in it – we have mentioned him in passing for the last two weeks – Melchizedek. He was a King and a priest who is mentioned in three places in the bible – Genesis when he met and blessed Abraham, the Psalms and here in Hebrews. Now don’t get put off by the long passages and the reference to mysterious priests today – we will be break it down as we go along together. But remember that this letter was written to those who were tempted to go back to their pre-Christ Jewish faith as it was familiar and safer from persecution – the whole argument is why would you want to go backwards – Jesus is Greater!

The entire message of Hebrews is don’t go back but do go forwards, and today we look at chapter 3 and part of chapter 4. The writer of the book of Hebrews lays out a set of arguments that focus on Jesus and more importantly Jesus as God. Over the previous two weeks, we saw that Jesus is greater than the angels and last week Jesus is greater than the prophets and this morning that Jesus is greater than Moses.

Well, last week we saw that Jesus was greater than any prophet and even greater than the angels. This week, we will see again, a whole host of reasons, why there is no one greater than Jesus. And why you would never want to leave him.. and drift away from him. So, what have these Christians heard that they must pay close attention too?
