We are in the last of our Ephesians series “Where we Belong”, and today we look at chapter six. We started with the title Belonging then in week two Changed, week three Loved, then United and last week Transformed. As you can see from our last banner, today our title is Strengthened.

Transformed:

One of natures most perfect examples of transformation. A butterfly. Hard to believe this little fella starts out as a creep crawly. But its
true… as you look at the caterpillar – it grows and matures… and it goes through a incredible transformation – an amazing process of change… and ends up as something very different from how it began. Just like our eagle story from a few weeks ago… there are many Christians who live like caterpillars and worms… crawling around on the ground… easy pickings for predators… when they could be living in the fullness of the Holy Spirit… and being transformed in the hand of God!

Within the church context, it’s very easy to feel as if there are people who have different passions all pulling in different directions. At times we may wonder why someone at church doesn’t talk to us anymore. We may even feel unappreciated within our area of ministry. The downside of this is that is contributes to anxiety, stress, even more so, sometimes lack of faith and unbelief in other people and even towards God…and so.. In steps Paul, Paul was a straight shooter. So much so that I think if you weren’t on the same page as Paul, he would very quickly get you onto the same page. Paul speaks into how we find unity within the Church body

This sermon includes the induction of Tristan Jensen as our Associate Pastor so is a little longer than usual.

How is your New Year measuring up? Have you weighed in? I brought along the bathroom scale here today… I’m not looking too good at the moment. But I’m working on it! What about you? Have you taken your measurements? I also got a tape measure. Can I have some volunteers for a church weigh in?
I can see some of you shrinking in fear. It’s funny how we fear to be measured ourselves, but… we are always trying to measure God –is He big enough, is He forgiving enough, does He love me enough?
The next part of our passage this morning is about God’s love, and Paul’s prayer, which we are going to go through now, will show you… how greatly you are ‘Loved’.

According to Ephesians change comes from an unexpected source. In our minds, if we want to change we had jolly well better knuckle down and do better. As a schoolboy, if our performance began to fall our teachers would tell us to pull up our socks. I could never understand what socks had to do with grades as if somehow there was some mystical connection between socks and algebra – pull up socks and “Ah now I understand”, and if they fell down, you were flooded with waves of ignorance. But that is precisely our mindset today, and we tenaciously believe the path to change is by teeth-gritting determination. Ephesians however, introduces something entirely unexpected:
