And this last Christmas song is sung by someone… who looked at baby Jesus… and instantly recognised Him! Not like some of you who could not even spot our church staff! Shame on you! Simeon instantly recognized baby Jesus and who he would become, and so… Simeon’s song… is about who Jesus was… and about how He would turn the world upside down.

Well, today, I believe God’s got a message for you… I know Christmas can be a tough time for many people… if you’re not with family… it can be tough… and if you are with family… it can be tough too! Even if you pop across to the shops to escape… to buy some milk… you will find that peace is not reigning there – stress, pressure and frustration are reigning there! And praise God, that this is not the song that God sings over you this Christmas time. God’s song over you my friend… is not a heavy song of burden and weight… it’s a song of love… a song of peace. This is the Angels’ song…

Zachariah’s Song

Zachariah’s song is about a promise kept. God made a covenant but this was not a casual promise – We’ll meet for coffee on Tuesday type promise. This was a holy covenant; an oath sworn by God – there is no higher authority by which a promise can be accounted for. So we need to look deeper into this covenant to see the heart of God here. The world into which John the Baptist was born was broken and damaged much like our world but this promise is about fixing that brokenness.

Mary’s Song

Mary’s story is full of courage, faith, risk, trust, obedience, and adventure. God was at work in Mary’s life, His wonderful plan for that first Christmas was taking place. And so, what we are going to focus on this morning, is how Mary responded to all of this! Do you know what she did? Do you know how she responded? She worshipped!
